. . . . and then it rained
When Gilly and I went over to The Lawnswood Arms at approx 6.05pm for what was to be the first evening run of the year we never expected that there would be any members brave enough to turn out on such a night. But just how wrong could we be when we were greeted by Herbert and Mamie Simpson who had travelled down from Bedale and various other club members all eager to enjoy themselves whatever the weather. In total we had nine cars for the run including new members John and Anita Fishwick (the only ones in an MG) who were not really sure what to expect.
With route sheets handed out and studied a steady stream left The Lawnswood at approx 6.30pm for a 25 mile run. In different weather a pleasant little run taking in Weardley, Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall and onwards into the outskirts of Wetherby where a left turn took us past The Wetherby Cinema and down to join the B6164. After a short distance a fork left kept us on the B6164 and through the pretty villages of Kirk Deighton, North Deighton and Little Ribston, all of which are pretty in their own way and look completely different in sunshine than through wiper blades.
Just outside Knaresborough we joined the A658 and headed homeward but just short of 2 miles at the roundabout we turned right onto the A661 to find The Kestrel Inn on our left, our venue for our evening meal. The staff had really looked after us with a private room but there was plenty of space for more should the weather had been kinder. Everybody seemed to enjoy their chosen meal and refreshments before venturing homeward and YES it was still raining !!
