Spring Has Sprung – Sunday May 13th 2018
What a glorious day, the sun shone and 15 cars met up at Strike’s Garden Centre at Garforth Cliff for the re-run of the previously cancelled ‘Daffodils with Tulips’ due to inclement weather, to join in the now re-named “Spring has Sprung” Sunday run. As there was no immediate rush to set off, as lunch was not until 2.00pm, it gave members a chance to enjoy a coffee etc and also a good look round the Garden Centre.
It was not long before cars turned off the main road and going through Garforth to join the major road and heading for Barwick-in-Elmet and Scholes and then into Thorner. A left turn onto the narrow Milner Lane saw the route doing a circuit before returning via East Keswick and Bardsey to Milner Lane but in the opposite direction. A tight left turn just before Bramham took us on the back roads to Collingham and into Wetherby. Onwards through Sicklinghall passing The Scotts Arms, a popular venue with our club, before a turn left to Netherby and Harewood. At the A61 a left followed by a right into Dunkeswick and Weeton where a right onto Weeton Lane saw us into the village of Huby. Under the railway bridge we joined the A658 and we were homeward bound. 3.6 miles later The Wharfedale Inn car park beckoned so we pulled in and sat in the garden, still in brilliant sunshine, for a welcome drink before proceeding into the dining room for our Sunday Lunch. A very pleasant run and beautiful weather made the day.
