The Fountains Run, 19th November 2017
After bacon sandwiches and coffee had been enjoyed at Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre in Pool near Otley on a day blessed with blue sky and sunshine 16 cars and their crews departed as instructed at around 11.00am for a run of approximately 40 miles. (The reason for the suggested departure time was due to the fact that the finish venue, Fountains Abbey visitor centre where we were to lunch gets very busy at around 12.30 so we needed to arrive before the rush to avoid disappointment.)
There was a mix of ancient and modern cars, ours being the MGB GT. Following a very well planned and presented scenic route by Dennis Hodge and Dave Fletcher it was very enjoyable with some of the country lanes being good enough to open up the car a little and blow away a few of the cobwebs that had collected with the car not having been out for some time. The clear air and blue skies added to the pleasure of the run as the views were stunning. We passed through the villages of Pool, Arthington, Kirkby Overblow, Burn Bridge, Fewston, Pateley Bridge before reaching Fountains Abbey where many of us stayed and enjoyed Sunday Lunch.
Thank you to Dennis and Dave for a great day, great weather, great route and great company – who could ask for more ??
